I have been wanting a unique indoor planter for my house for a while! To make things a little more interesting, I decided to team up against my dad to see who did it better. A little friendly competition never hurts right?

My planter was super easy to make. Here is everything you will need!

Step 1: Start by cutting your pine wood. Cut three 21” pieces. These three will be the bottom and long sides of your box. Then cut two 4 1/4” pieces for both short sides.

Step 2: Grab your wood glue! Take your three 21″ pieces of wood. Attach two of them to each side of the bottom. Take your clamps(if you have them) to hold the sides together while they dry. Once both sides are dry, use a few finish nails to secure it.

Step 3: Now go ahead and do the same thing with the two 4 1/4″ short pieces! Take your wood glue and attach both to each end of your planter. 

Step 4: Once all sides are dry, it’s time to sand! Take your sandpaper and thoroughly sand your box, this will create a smooth surface to stain.

Step 5: Now we stain! I used Minwax Denim Blue Mw1070 Semi-Transparent Interior Stain and love it. The stain was so easy to apply all I needed was a brush. I love that the stain really highlighted the wood grain! The stain is awesome, and the best part is that there are 200+ tintable color options to choose from, that hide the wood grain but maintain the wood texture.

Step 6: The Minwax Semi-Transparent Interior Stain dried so fast, it only took 1 hour! Once the stain dried, I added my succulents.

 

I love the final product so much! It looks like it took me way longer to make than just one afternoon. The color pop from the Wood Finish Water-Based Solid Color Stain in Blue Denim elevates the planter and gives it that special look I was going for.
