I can say I have never worked on a house with a perfectly flat roof. I guess there’s a first time for everything! This was such a fun project because my client was actually turning this into a rental property. Just 15 minutes from downtown Kansas City the location couldn’t be better. We totally embraced the mid-century modern feel of this house and turned this home into the perfect rental property!

Exterior

We updated the exterior with a fresh coat of paint  that really leaned into the mid-century modern vibe of the house.

Entryway

Wow, talk about an open floor plan! Walking in from the front door, you can see the entire main living area. There was so much room to turn this space into exactly what my client was looking for!

How fantastic is this little indoor garden? The house was literally built around it, so I knew we had to incorporate it into the design. We added a decorative room divider to define the space and give some privacy in the living area.

Living Room

These windows were so amazing and let in so much natural light. The main focal point of this room was the fireplace, so we painted it black to anchor the space. We made this room super cozy and added a black light fixture to compliment the fireplace.

Seating Area

The perfect spot for a snuggly seating area was on the other side of the fireplace. Since this was right off the kitchen, we added a little dry bar using the same countertop to tie the rooms together. This is just the perfect spot to unwind at the end of the day with a glass of wine!

Kitchen

This kitchen checks all the boxes. We moved the back wall forward to create a better flow throughout the space. All new lower cabinets, quartz countertops, gorgeous backsplash, and stunning lighting give this kitchen the mid-century modern look we were going for.

I love a kitchen with a banquette seat. We got to work with some of my favorite local vendors to bring this banquette to life. The suede is actually from Nickel and Suede and Weave Gotcha Covered created the perfect cushions to compliment this little corner.

Main Bedroom

This room really just needed a fresh coat of paint and some new lighting fixtures. The star of the show may be the fantastic built-in headboard that perfectly compliments the house’s mid-century aesthetic.

Having an ensuite bathroom makes all the difference in resale value. So, we converted the utility space into an ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet. We added a gorgeous spa-like shower, a double sink floating vanity, and this stunning floor-to-ceiling tile vanity wall.

Additional Bedroom

Since the main living area was so massive, we were able to take some space from it to create a whole other bedroom. Another bedroom is huge for rental and resale value. The huge windows allow for amazing natural light. Since there is so much natural light, I added this moody, modern black and gold wallpaper that pairs perfectly with the gold pendant.

Guest Bathroom

We turned this powder bath into a full bath, which is amazing for resale. I love how the green vanity tile and wall sconces give the space a retro feel.

Office

This light is a show-stopper! Since this room is right off the entryway, it made the perfect office. Plus, the wallpaper makes an ideal zoom background!

We made this flat-roof house fabulous. I love how it is mid-century modern, but it is still so cozy and homey.
