When I first walked up to this 1960’s Colonial-style home, it was beige and drab, very dated and overall just not a standout home in this beautiful neighborhood. It’s always nice to snag a property that’s already been demo’d so Dad didn’t have nearly as much to do! Just kidding, he was lots of help transforming this house into a modern masterpiece.

My budget for this house was tight and I wanted to keep it simple on the outside, very clean and crisp. The focus was all about the backyard and side patio, with golf course views. We went with a bright white for the entire exterior, with contrasting black windows, door and light fixtures. In the springtime, blooming flowers in lots of colors will really pop for curb appeal!

This was one of those houses I wanted to go super bright white and really let the light in but keep the whole house feeling very soft and neutral so all the accents really popped. When you first walk in, you’ve got a nice entryway with views of the office and dining room to each side, and then a view straight back to the backyard. We added a small accent hutch for a bit of storage and a place to display some of our favorite things.

Office

Initially, this space had been a formal living room but I envisioned an office space being much more usable for a modern family, especially this year! Thanks to the killer sliding doors that we added, this room has so much natural light, I’d love to spend my workday in here! The light fixtures in this room are extra fun. Instead of doing four cans in each corner, we went with these really interesting fixtures in a contrasting black that give off even more light but in an interesting directional way. And of course, we have that fabulous art print on the back wall, and we have the Kazi baskets for artwork on the wall. I wanted it to feel whimsical and fun against the crisp white so I chose a really bold rug with the yellow and the birds to pop.

Side Patio

I love that we were able to add more outdoor living space to this house by swapping the windows for sliding doors and creating this patio. We put the pavers on top of a concrete base to have a little bit more dimension instead of just a big flat piece of concrete. This turned out to be a lovely and relatively inexpensive space.

Dining Room

One of my favorite spaces in this house! I love this dining room table like crazy. The tile on the back wall almost looks like we did it as ombre but it actually comes like that with lots of different colors all the way up the wall. The cabinetry in here is book-matched and so, so beautiful. The natural color palette of the tile, paired with the luxe of the chandelier, and the beautiful blue of the rug really created a space that feels so warm and beautiful but livable. Sometimes homes that are such a crisp aesthetic with all white can feel cold and sterile but truly the things that fill the space can make all the difference and this room is a great example.

 

Kitchen

Fun behind the scenes fact! Because of Covid, appliances are in high, high demand and we had to rent the stove because our hood and stove were backordered and didn’t arrive in time for filming. This kitchen is a beautiful example of how wood cabinetry is back in style, but not the dated, orangey oak from the 80’s. All the cabinets sit flush in this beautiful kitchen, with clean lines, tons of storage and a continuation of the clean and crisp, but with the wood tone adding so much warmth. The natural veining in the stone countertop softens the room up more, and I couldn’t resist an opportunity for the fun pendants lights we installed in the corner – making a statement and adding in more interest to the space. The layout of the island is so functional because you’ve got seating on the side but it’s not crowded.

Living Room

The fireplace mantle is something that I really love. Before we had a very average fireplace that no longer fit the aesthetic of the house so now this new fireplace continues with our neutral palette but is just so grand! That’s one of the pieces that brings warmth, character and charm, along with the bookcases flanking the window in the living room.

Back Patio

Instead of just doing a straight-lay on the back deck, we went with a pattern that was a really nice touch and feels very custom. Whether or not to paint the chimney was a back and forth decision all the way until the end but we wanted the all-white crisp look with the black windows, so painting it was ultimately the way to go. This outdoor space is now a beautiful place to enjoy the backyard of this home, with views of the golf course as well.

Main Suite

This wallpaper is so good and adds lovely texture to this main bedroom! It’s one of my favorites and actually my parents have it at their house in their front music room. I really like how we have the windows flanking the bed and lights hanging in front of the windows. I think that’s an interesting look and has a little bit of a modern vibe. It’s also super practical and something I’ve found myself doing more and more – by pulling your bedside lighting off the nightstand, you free up tabletop space. It also brings the light up slightly higher than a lamp, which I think is more practical for reading.

The main bathroom continues our theme of clean and crisp! I loved the symmetry of the two vanities that you pass as you’re walking through to the closet. The gorgeous soaker tub that I think everyone wants, and the crisp shower. And then we installed wallpaper on the back wall of the closet because this main suite runs from the front to the back of the house and so either direction you look, you see a beautiful wallpaper. We wrapped the window in the closet with the beautiful leather, which is such a unique way to finish the space – not something you see everyday and it makes the space feel really elevated and sophisticated, I think.

 

Hall Bathroom

I absolutely love this dimensional tile – it’s such a fun one! Especially paired with these light fixtures that are a little bit more modern and the vintage-looking mirror. The combination of these three elements really gave this room an old world charm. Honestly this combination is maybe the best one in the house.

Second Bedroom

Nice and bright in here and continued white on the walls but added the palest pink to the ceiling for some interest. Truly this room is all about the staging – more feminine patterns and colors, just a beautiful little bedroom.

Third Bedroom

The third bedroom is a bit more masculine. We went with the black ceiling and fun light fixture to draw the eye up, and an interesting wallpaper on the back wall to pull you in. The furnishings add warmth and texture, and this turned into a cozy bedroom!
