This lovely stone house once owned by famed golf club maker, Kenneth Smith, sits on a historic
golf course waiting for my team and me to breathe new life into it. This investment property is a
hole-in-one!

EXTERIOR

This house had been not just neglected but abandoned for a really long time and the really incredible part about it is that it had such a strong significance to Kansas City. I love the story of how Kenneth Smith started his business right here on this property and built golf clubs that were custom made for every owner with a number detailing exactly whose they were including Eisenhower and Kings, Cheeks and even the very first Augusta tour was won with a set of Kenneth clubs! How cool? But, after its glory days, it fell into disrepair and complete neglect and luckily, Jeremy and his dad were able to see the value and the history of this home in such a unique location that they didn’t want to just tear it down, they wanted to save the story for the neighborhood and have a true piece of history restored. But, it did need to be current day standards with all of the beautiful stone work. It definitely a 3-car garage and we needed the architecture to fit with the neighborhood! So, adding on the 3-car garage, wrapping the skirt of the house in limestone that was precisely chosen for the new house to match with the old, and keeping that consistent shingle look to the roof. Then, of course a classic detail with the white and black mixed with the stone is timeless!

HEARTH ROOM

Let’s walk through the front door! It was important to keep that historic feel but creating it in a modern way. We brought in a beautiful cast stone fireplace wrapping it in dark-stained bookcase and mantle that spoke for itself. No artwork needed. It was so beautiful as is. We wrapped the room in trim work giving it that library vibe.

LIVING ROOM

Walking into the living room space that connects to the open concept kitchen feels super modern for such a historic home but also kept the color tones, the palette and details all in that timeless fashion. We included soft grays, beiges, natural wood tones, beautiful light fixtures that felt traditional and timeless. Not to mention, a vaulted ceiling for the entire space:) Opening up these huge windows on the sides and the back to a gorgeous view of the pond and the neighborhood changed the entire feeling of the whole space.

KITCHEN

Now onto this crazy gorgeous kitchen! We installed this super long island, great accent bookcase details on each end, 4 pendants over the kitchen island, great seating storage and durable countertops in a black quartz island with light quartz perimeter and marble backsplash! To keep the look continuous, we added a dark stain face to the cabinetry and beautiful built in appliances that includes a refrigerator to keep the symmetry throughout the entire space. Detailed on the left, and to the right of the kitchen, a window with extra countertop space to continue keeping the layout symmetrical on both sides. This kitchen really was all about symmetry, color, details and tradition. Topping the entire room off, is the brass hood! A small but might detail is that we had vaulted ceilings in the great room and dining room, it drops down into the kitchen adding in this thin profile trim detail to the ceiling gave this kitchen its own special moment!

Not to mention, more storage to the left! I didn’t think open shelving could get much better than this! We added a bar backed with antiqued mirror tile backsplash highlighting this stunning custom brass shelving by Wa Hoo Designs surrounded by sage green cabinetry.

PANTRY

Even though it’s hidden, you don’t want to miss this walk-in pantry! Walking into the pantry is such a lovely surprise with tons of storage, beautiful tile work, fun grandma chic wallpaper was such a fun and functional space to add as an extension from the kitchen.

HALF BATHROOM

The half bath needed a moment of drama. We went super dark with a black toilet, black walls, sink and slab of porcelain on the back for a really elegant and dramatic moment. A black Carlton mirror with gold accents details was the perfect way to highlight the space!

MAIN BEDROOM

A great alcove leads you to this main suite with a walk in closet to the right and a beautiful classic bathroom to the left. This bedroom is everything you could possibly aim for. We wanted to stay on budget, so we added a trim detail 3/4 of the way up the wall. It’s such a simple detail that makes a huge difference. We painted from the trim down all the way around the room, one soft gray-blue, and then the ceiling and all around the upper 1/3 of the wall we painted all the same white to give it this elevated feeling. The natural light pouring in from the windows out to the back of the house looking at the pond and two windows of the left and right of the headboard with soft, luxurious carpet making this space feel ultra luxurious all the way around!

MAIN BATHROOM

The main bathroom! Wow. Marble tile floors in a circle length pattern with black Kohler cabinetry, medicine cabinet mirrors and light fixtures, mixing metals from black to chrome, brushed steel to gold giving it that collected look.

CLOSET
